Origami Sky
Nanjing, China
2018
During her practice in Shanghai, Momoko Cai developed a reputation as a specialist in children’s theater design. This project is one of a series of theaters shaped by her deep understanding of children’s psychology and behavior, combined with a genuine passion for creating meaningful spaces for young audiences.
Each theater was conceived around a distinct theme—one that resonates with children’s imagination while maintaining a level of spatial clarity and aesthetic refinement appreciated by adults.
Origami Sky explores the relationship between architectural geometry and the expressive language of origami. Faceted forms unfold across the ceiling and walls, creating a dynamic landscape that invites curiosity and play. Scaled to children and crafted with tactile, approachable materials, the space transforms the theater into a lively environment where imagination, movement, and storytelling naturally converge.
